New National Standards for General and Horticultural Lighting LED Performance Officially Take Effect

According to official news released by the National Standard Information Public Service Platform, two national standards for lighting, under the administration of the National Technical Committee on Lighting of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 224), officially take effect on June 1, 2025. These standards are:

1.  GB/T 24823-2024 Performance specification for LED modules for general lighting

2.  GB/T 44473-2024 Performance specification for LED lamps, LED luminaires and LED modules for horticultural lighting

Main Content of the Standards

I. Clarification of Power and Displacement Factor Requirements for Horticultural Lighting Products

1.  The deviation between the initial power and the rated power shall not exceed ±10%.

2.  For dimmable products, the displacement factor shall be measured at the maximum light output state.

II. Standardization of Photon Radiation Parameters Critical for Plant Growth

1.  The initial photon flux shall not be less than 10% below the rated value, and the initial photon flux efficacy shall not be lower than the rated value.

2.  The declared photon radiation parameters within each wavelength range shall be tested and reported.

3.  The actual photon intensity distribution and photon irradiance at the typical installation height shall be tested and reported.

III. Specification of Endurance Tests and Damp Heat Tests for Products

1.  LED lamps shall comply with requirements for temperature cycle tests, switching tests, and damp heat tests.

2.  LED modules shall comply with the endurance tests specified in GB/T 24823 (Performance specification for LED modules for general lighting). Independent LED modules shall also comply with damp heat test requirements.

3. LED luminaires shall comply with the endurance tests and damp heat tests specified in GB/T 31897.201 (Performance of luminaires - Part 2-1: Particular requirements for LED luminaires).

IV. Specification of Structural Requirements for End Products

1.  They shall be made of materials capable of withstanding disinfection using various chemicals in greenhouses or indoor farms.

2.  Materials resistant to long-term UV radiation exposure in greenhouses shall be selected.

3.  They shall not have deep grooves or enclosed moving parts that could lead to dust accumulation.

Significance of Standard Implementation

The implementation of GB/T 44473-2024 Performance specification for LED lamps, LED luminaires and LED modules for horticultural lighting will standardize the performance of LED products used in horticultural lighting, reduce quality disparities, promote the healthy and orderly development of the industry, and provide technical support for modern agriculture and indoor plant cultivation.
